Makenzie Palazzone

Dance Teacher and Stage Manager

Biography

Ms. Makenzie began dancing at 14 years old, stepping into her first class through an audition for a competition team after being mostly self-taught. From that moment on, dance became a constant in my life. After switching studios during COVID, she trained in ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, tap, acro, etc., growing not only as a dancer, but as a person. Throughout her competitive career, she earned overall awards in solos, duos, trios, and group dances, placed in improvisation competitions, and began assisting with younger dancers.

In high school, she founded Grafton High School’s first dance team, serving as captain and president and producing our first end-of-year recital. She later continued dancing at Christopher Newport University, performing at athletic events before transitioning to a club team and performing in showcases while focusing on academics. She is now serving on the executive board for CNU Dance Company as stage manager and class coordinator. She has worked as an established competition choreographer, creating and cleaning award-winning pieces while sharing her passion for movement and helping dancers grow in confidence and artistry. She also teaches master classes at a local high school for the arts.

Dance has always been more than performance to her: it is a place of growth, discipline, and connection. Her goal is to give that same love back to the next generation and remind young dancers that the hours spent in the studio truly matter, because dance has the power to inspire and change lives.
